The Youth Department of the Southern New England Conference and its churches is partnering with the Hartford Churches of the Northeastern Conference in a youth deployment program in the City of Hartford on October 2nd and 3rd 2010.

Aim

The aim of the program is to instill with our youth and young adults (young people) a spirit of service. We want them to learn that they have skills that are beneficial to their society and that service is an enjoyable and valuable facet of their spiritual development. 
Furthermore, we want the young people of Hartford to own and continue to invest in long-term service projects that match their skills with the needs of the City.
Finally we want to demonstrate that there are appropriate service projects for all ages that can be researched and launched by young people. In doing so they will develop their leadership skills.
     

Young People

We are making plans for 2000 young people to participate. Of which 500 will be up to 10 years of age, 1000 will be 11-17 years and a further 500 will be 18 years and older. However, adults could swell the numbers to 3000. They will come from across Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.  Many are members of our Pathfinders (similar to the Scouts).
The ethnic make-up will be mixed but there will be significant group from African-American / Caribbean heritage and another group of Hispanic heritage.
The young people present with a range of skills, experience and courage.
 

Date

October 2nd and 3rd 2010 are the days earmarked for Impact Hartford.
 

Venue

Bushnell Park has been chosen because it is central to the two major communities that we’ll be targeting in the north and south of Hartford. Other activities will be centered on the five hosting churches of Christian Fellowship, Faith, Grace, Hartford Spanish and Hope.
